A Life Retrieved
While driving their ageing Retriever back to where it all began, a husband and wife revisit a lifetime of memories, regrets and unspoken truths.
Steve drives north with his wife Catherine and their ageing Retriever, Luke. Wrapped in Catherine's old burgundy coat, Luke sleeps peacefully in the back as they journey through the Yorkshire countryside towards the village where so much of their life together began.
As the miles pass, they fill the car with memories. At first they talk about Luke — the day they chose him, the chaos he brought into their lives, and the companionship that followed. But grief has a way of changing direction. Before long, the conversation turns to their marriage, the dreams they never quite fulfilled, the mistakes they survived, and the moments that defined them.
What begins as a journey through Luke's life gradually becomes a journey through their own.
With each passing mile, the car becomes less a vehicle and more a confession box. Old wounds are revisited, forgotten joys rediscovered, and long-buried truths finally spoken aloud. As the past and present begin to blur, Steve is forced to confront the reality of what he is truly struggling to let go of.
A Life Retrieved is a poignant, life-affirming drama about enduring love, memory, grief, and the conversations we wish we could have one last time.
