About Roger

I’m Roger Wilson-Crane, an award-winning novelist and screenwriter with a fascination for ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary situations.

Raised in the Yorkshire Dales, I first discovered storytelling at fourteen when I wrote, directed and performed a play at school. Life, work and a career in the automotive industry followed, but the stories never really went away. They sat quietly in the background for years before finally demanding to be written.

My debut novel, Certified, became an Amazon bestseller and went on to win the 2021 International CIBA Mark Twain Grand Prize and a Bronze Medal in the 2022 Readers' Favorite International Book Awards. More importantly, readers connected with its humour, warmth and recognisable characters.

Whether I'm writing novels or television drama, I'm drawn to stories that feel real. I like flawed people, difficult choices and the moments that reveal who we really are when life doesn't go to plan.

I'm currently developing Escorted, a six-part television drama about a struggling Yorkshire shop owner who secretly becomes a paid companion to professional women in order to save his family business. The project was shortlisted for the All3Media New Writers Collective and longlisted for the UK Film Festival Script Competition.

At the heart of everything I write is the same question:

What happens when ordinary people are forced to do extraordinary things?
