About Roger

I'm Roger Wilson-Crane, an award-winning novelist and screenwriter based in the market town of Ormskirk, Lancashire, with a fascination for ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary situations.

Raised in the Yorkshire Dales, I first discovered storytelling at fourteen when I wrote, directed and performed a play at school. Life and a career in the automotive industry followed, but the stories never really went away. The people I've met and the experiences I've gained continue to inspire much of my writing.

My debut novel, Certified, became an Amazon bestseller and went on to win the 2021 International CIBA Mark Twain Grand Prize and a Bronze Medal in the 2022 Readers' Favorite International Book Awards.

I've since adapted Certified into a six-part television comedy set in the Yorkshire Dales, exploring the complications of love, friendship, family and the many disastrous decisions people make along the way. The original television adaptation was a finalist at the 2024 Cambridge Script Festival, and I've recently reworked the series as a more out-and-out comedy, while keeping the warmth and emotional heart of the novel.

I'm also developing Escorted, a contemporary six-part television drama which was shortlisted for the All3Media New Writers Collective, is currently longlisted for the 2026 Page Turner Screenplay Awards and was recently longlisted for the FilmNation TV UK strand of the Channel 4 Writing for Television Award, programmed by New Writing North.

Whether I'm writing comedy or drama, I'm drawn to flawed but recognisable characters, difficult choices and the moments when life doesn't quite go to plan. I like stories that combine warmth, humour and emotional honesty, even when the circumstances are anything but ordinary.

I'm a Candidate Member of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain.
